Myths About Our IGL Ceramic Coating Packages - DIY Marine & Auto Detailing

Myth 1: Ceramic coatings are self-healing against defects

There is a distinct difference between ceramic coating formulas and other types of auto paint and surface protection, namely how they hold up against defects and discrepancies. Ceramic coatings are a thicker, harder version of a vehicle clear coat, meaning their high hydrophobicity can stop staining from taking place but they CANNOT self-heal like a PPF.

Myth 2: You can ONLY coat vehicle paint with IGL formulas

IGL Ceramic Coatings are a liquid polymer to start, curing in a safe and environmentally friendly way on any vehicle surface they are applied to. Their nanoparticles find small divots in paint, glass, metal, and other areas, filling them to interlock during the curing process. With that being said, these coating formulas can easily be applied to ANY automobile surface successfully!

Myth 3: You can avoid detailing once installing a ceramic coating

This is only partially true, though avoiding detailing completely is not an option. Ceramic coatings and the nanotechnology that allows them to be water and contamination-resistant does help them stay clean safely, even if they are exposed to rain, mud, or road wash; however, you DO need to professionally detail them if they get messy so they do not get scratched.

Ceramic Coating Package FAQs and Answers

  • If IGL Ceramic Coatings are easily installed, can I do it myself?

You cannot. IGL Ceramic Coatings are easy for a professionally trained and certified team to apply, like ours here at DIY Marine & Auto Detailing of Salisbury, Maryland. Between the quick curing time, the steady hand it requires to level while they are liquid, and the general maintenance they require thereafter, ceramic coatings are PROFESSIONAL for a reason!

  • Will a ceramic coating get clean at a public car wash?

Washing a ceramic coating with a hose or at a public car wash may rinse any residual, obvious contamination from your surfaces. However, those efforts are not only lackluster, they can be dangerous to the integrity of the coating itself. Especially soft touch public car washes, those drive-thru services can actually scratch and swirl your coating, similar to your clear coat.

  • Do ceramic coatings keep vehicle paint from fading in the sun?

For sure! This is an often overlooked and unsung benefit of our IGL Ceramic Coating packages here at DIY Marine & Auto Detailing. The top layer of a ceramic coating is highly reflective, providing a glossy filter over your paintwork that both repels and resists the degradation caused by ultraviolet light exposure. Your ride will now look great in direct sunlight WITHOUT having to suffer!

  • What environmental contaminants do ceramic coatings hold up against?

The common environmental contaminants that your car, truck, or SUV may be exposed to here in Salisbury, Maryland include, but are not limited to, tree sap, bird droppings, bug splatters, UV rays, acid rain, harmful road wash that contains oil and fuel, and even dust and dirt. IGL Ceramic Coatings prevent surface stains and unsightly buildup of ALL these!
